As you may or may not know I like YouTube very much! I'd like to say I am apart of the YouTube community and support many youtubers in all that they do. Recently, many different youtubers have been sharing their view on what they call 'YouTube Culture', this is the way in which they interact with their fans and things like that. I do realise I'm not a youtuber but I would like to share my view on this subject.
Earlier on today, one of my personal favourite youtubers, Louise (sprinkleofglitter on youtube) tweeted:
If you watch Louise videos and vlogs, you will know that she has issues with being in public on her own or in an unfamiliar place. Therefore, reading this tweet angered me a lot. It made me think, are these people who were following her real fans or are they doing it for attention? Surely if you knew her you would know that something like that would make her feel incredibly uncomfortable.
The youtube community is getting incredibly big and slowly, the real world is becoming familiar with the idea of youtubers. The prospects of what youtube may be like in 10 years from now somewhat scares me. When I first joined the community it was fairly small and everyone was very kind and nice to eachother. But sadly, as it grew, what I call 'fake fans' joined. They are the ones that do things like this and become a little too obsessive over youtubers. They don't realise that just like us, the people they are following, stalking, screaming at, are just normal people. They have the right to undertake their own private lives on the side of their career in YouTube.
It is these 'fake fans' that cause youtubers to have to organise barriers, security guards and limit the amount of people from meeting them. If everyone would respect their privacy and personal space, these precautions would not be needed and the real fans would all be able to meet their idols.
I could write about this for ages but I am going to stop here. To sum it all up, youtubers are real people just like us and their privacy needs to be respected.
Thank you for reading this and if you have any views on this subject, even if you disagree with what I have said, I would love to hear about them so feel free to comment below!
Until next time, eat lots of mince pies and put your Christmas songs on repeat!
Adios! x
